But Can’t Hide Its Age
Nobody needs a vehicle like the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, but like so many other absurdly fast cars on the market, we’re very glad it exists.
Dodge has been building the current-generation Durango since 2011, which in the automotive world makes it quite aged. However, much like the similarly-old Challenger and Charger, Dodge has discovered that it can appease most of its customers by simply adding more power. That’s exactly what it has done with the SRT Hellcat.
The range-topping Durango is powered by the car manufacturer’s supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 that pumps out 710 hp and 645 lb-ft (874 Nm) of torque. This engine is coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels and allowing the SUV to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds. It can also run down the quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds and max out at 180 mph (290 km/h).
During this review, Doug DeMuro checks out the Durango SRT Hellcat in detail and takes it for a drive. While behind the wheel, he is blown away by the SUV’s straight-line performance, stating that flooring the throttle is particularly amazing when you look in the rear-view mirror and notice the third row of seats. Unfortunately, the ride quality has suffered due to Dodge’s pursuit to give the Durango as much performance as possible.
DeMuro also notes that it is starting to feel its age, particularly in the interior where there are useless features like a BluRay player in the center console.
