Jeep Teases The Upcoming Grand Wagoneer And Wrangl
Wrangler 4xe Plug-In Hybrid
Jeep has released new teaser videos for the upcoming Grand Wagoneer and Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid.
Starting with the Wrangler, it looks similar to the model that was introduced at CES earlier this year. As a result, it has a charging port which is integrated into the base of the windscreen.
We can also see “4xe” badging on the left of the tailgate. However, the production model appears slightly toned down as it seems to eschew blue tow hooks and blue accents around the Rubicon decals.
Jeep has been tight-lipped on specifics, but the model will debut soon and is expected to feature a 3.6-liter V6 engine and a plug-in hybrid system that is loosely based on the one used in the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. Little is known about it, but Jeep promised the model will be “so quiet you can hear your own breath, until it takes that away too.”
In other news, Jeep released another teaser video for the Grand Wagoneer. It’s a bit more revealing than previous teasers as it shows the outline of the upcoming SUV.
While there isn’t much to see, we can make out a curved hood, rounded fenders and a tall fascia. The model will also have roof rails and what appears to be a modest amount of ground clearance.
The Grand Wagoneer will be unveiled on September 3rd and it’s expected to be based on the same platform that underpins the Ram 1500. This means engines will likely be shared with the truck and include an entry-level 3.6-liter V6 that produces 305 hp (224 kW / 309 PS) and 269 lb-ft (364 Nm) of torque. There should also be a 5.7-liter V8 with 395 hp (291 kW / 400 PS) and 410 lb-ft (556 Nm) of torque.
The company has also confirmed plans for a plug-in hybrid variant and it could use the same powertrain as the Wrangler 4xe. However, given its size, it would likely have a larger battery pack.
