The 2021 Chrysler Voyager Won’t Be Getting
The Pacifica’s Facelift
While the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica has just debuted a new face at the Chicago Auto Show, its no-frills sibling will stick with the old one.
We’re obviously talking about the 2020 Chrysler Voyager, introduced last year as a more affordable alternative to the Pacifica – and effectively a replacement for the Dodge Grand Caravan.
When the Voyager will enter the 2021 model year, it won’t get the visual updates of the facelifted Pacifica. Speaking with MotorTrend, Matt Davis, director of the Chrysler brand, “the Voyager will keep the current-generation look.”
This seems logical given that the whole point of the 2020 Voyager is to offer a lower-spec alternative to the higher-end Pacifica. Spending money on a facelift only one year after its launch wouldn’t make much sense, would it? The decision is bound to please 2021 Pacifica owners, as the two models will be a lot easier to differentiate, giving the more expensive minivan the credit it deserves.
The 2020 Chrysler Voyager effectively replaces the Pacifica’s L and LX lower trim levels. The Voyager will soon replace the aging Dodge Grand Caravan as well, which is scheduled to go out of production at FCA’s Windsor, Ontario plant in Canada in May this year.
So what can buyers expect from the 2021 Chrysler Voyager, besides unchanged looks? Well, the brand may expand the availability of its innovative Stow ‘N Go second-row seats to lower-level Voyager L and LX grades. At the moment, they are only available on the fleet-only LXi trim level.
Not much else will change, certainly not the engine which will remain the same 3.6-liter V6. Hooked as standard to a nine-speed automatic transmission, it delivers 287 HP and 262 lb-ft (355 Nm) of torque. Those who want a plug-in hybrid powertrain or AWD will have to upgrade to a 2021 Pacifica.
The base price is likely to stay under $30,000; currently, the base 2020 Voyager L starts at $28,804 (including $1,495 destination). Expect Chrysler to release more information on the 2021 Voyager in the coming months. |
