Charger Body Like A Glove
This highly modified Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is probably the closest we’ll get to a modern interpretation of the classic 1969 Charger thanks to Six12 Auto Worx.
The car you see here is No. 002 out of the just 10 cars that will receive the carbon 1969 Charger conversion this year, and is going to be offered in Mecum Auctions’ Kissimmee sale on January 11.
Six12 Auto Worx stripped the original bodywork from a brand new Challenger SRT Hellcat and applied their own custom Charger skin, for those who want the classic looks but not necessarily all the inconvenience that comes with a 50-year-old car.
As you might imagine, creating a Charger body for the modern Challenger was quite …challenging, as the team had to stretch the classic design over the newer car but still make it look like a Charger; the finished car is now wider in order to keep the wheels tucked underneath the quarter panels, the front and rear valance are deeper, as well as the sides compared to the original Charger, along with myriad other changes necessary to make it look like a real modern version of the classic muscle car.
The new body is finished in Plum Candy Purple Glassier, leaving exposed the carbon weave, while the car rides on new Forgeline wheels. The carbon body is also estimated to be around 300 lbs (136 kg) lighter than the steel one of a stock Challenger SRT Hellcat.
Underneath the new skin everything remains stock, ensuring that this Charger restomod is as friendly as a new Challenger Hellcat can be, retaining along the way every modern feature and safety system that’s available to the 707 HP muscle car.
The cabin is pure Challenger, complete with its modern infotainment and full sound-proofing, while even the blind-spot monitoring system is preserved thanks to the clever 3D-printed retro door mirrors.
The end result is a very impressive custom muscle car that combines the presence of a Charger with the performance of a brand new Challenger SRT Hellcat.
