Mopar’s Tuned Dodge Challenger Warming Up Its
Tires Ahead Of SEMA Debut
Mopar has prepped a hot Dodge Challenger for the 2019 SEMA Show. The car will debut in Las Vegas on Tuesday, November 5, at 7:26 pm EST (1:26 am CET), and the unveiling will be live streamed online.
Mopar’s latest Dodge Challenger appears to be not road legal, given the drag-racing parachute that’s ready to deploy in order to bring it to a full stop. The teaser released by the FCA-owned brand shows the tuned Challenger warming up its rubber at the drag strip, with the bodywork finished in white and adorned with blue and red stripes.
Nobody outside Dodge knows what we’re dealing with here, but if were to take a guess, we’d say that it’s not the track-focused Challenger that’s rumored to be in the pipeline. That one should launch next year, arriving in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the nameplate, and could use some technology features from the Viper ACR. Furthermore, some believe that it will launch under the Challenger ACR moniker, likely as a rival to the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE.
Further down the road, the automaker should finally replace the Challenger, which is already 11 years old. The third-gen muscle car was introduced in 2008, and is being assembled in Canada. The sixth generation Mustang, on the other hand, was unveiled in late 2013, whereas the rivaling Camaro entered production at the end of 2015.
Another Dodge that has been announced for the 2019 SEMA Show is the 1968 D200 pickup truck, modified by Mopar. It’s called the Lowliner Concept and will be joined by the Ram 150 Rebel OTG study.
