First Special Edition
The Jeep Wrangler JL has been on sale for several months and it looks like it is about to receive its first special edition.
Snapped on the back of a car hauler by a member of the JL Wrangler Forums, the model will apparently be called the Wrangler Moab judging by the large decals on the hood.
The image doesn’t reveal much else, but the poster said the SUV was equipped with steel bumpers, unique rock rails and black tow hooks. Other special touches include black grille inserts, gray Jeep logos and black five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in BFG Mud Terrain KM2 tires.
Little else is known about the model, but the JL Wrangler Forums notes the Moab decals were originally spotted last December in FCA’s dealer parts catalog. At the time, it was unclear if the decals were going to be an accessory or a name for a new special edition. The latter now seems more likely, as the Wrangler that was spotted wearing them featured a host of other changes.
With no word from Jeep, there’s much we don’t know about the Moab, but the Wrangler JL can be equipped with an assortment of different engines including an entry-level 3.6-liter V6 producing 285 hp (212 kW / 289 PS) and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm) of torque and a new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 270 hp (201 kW / 273 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm).
The engines will be joined by a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 next year that will produce 260 hp (193 kW / 263 PS) and 442 lb-ft (598 Nm) of torque. The engine will be connected to an upgraded eight-speed automatic transmission, which has been designed to accommodate the diesel’s higher torque output.
