Actor Vin Diesel has teased the next installment of the “Fast and Furious” series on Facebook with a new movie poster, which confirms the film’s release date of April 14, 2017. The poster shows his character, Dominic Toretto, standing in the middle of the road next to his 1970 Dodge Charger R/T with a caption above reading “New Roads Ahead,” which could indicate a new direction for the film’s plot. Or maybe it’s just a tagline and doesn’t mean anything.
Last year, Diesel announced that “Furious 8” will open in theaters two years after “Furious 7” at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Diesel also touted at CinemaCon that the eighth film of the series will be better than the seventh. “Furious 7,” the last film to star the late Paul Walker, earned $1 billion worldwide in 17 days. Walker died in a car accident in 2013, which led to the seventh film’s release date being pushed back. The film crew made extensive use of special effects to keep his character in the movie along with his brothers acting as body doubles.
Fast and Furious franchise regulars such as Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges will be reprising their respective roles as street racers who became international criminals and eventually ended up as secret agents. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham are also expected to return in “Furious 8.” The film will be directed by F. Gary Gray who was responsible for the 2003 remake of the Italian Job.
